Comparing the Sony Xperia Ion to the Sony Xperia S

Android Central @ CES This year at CES we saw a bunch of new phones get announced, in particular two Sony phones that were very similar yet very different. Sure you can take time and watch the Sony Xperia S hands-on video and then compare that to the Sony Xperia Ion video and go back and forth looking to see which one you are most interested in. Alternatively you can just sit back and enjoy as we allow Sony to explain to us the benefits of each. So, which one appeals the most to you? Either of these potentially your next device? Be sure to let us know in the comments!

The Greatness of Barack Obama and the Madness of Andrew Sullivan (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Andrew Sullivan, writing for Newsweek, has produced one of the most fascinating and outrageous examples of rhetorical gymnastics in modern journalism. The title of the piece is "How Obama's Long Game Will Outsmart His Critics."

The thrust of the article is that President Barack Obama, far from being an abysmal failure who has fostered socialism at home and appeasement abroad, is a stunning success who, in the long run, will be regarded as a great president.

In the middle of economic malaise, exploding debt, turmoil in the Middle East and an administration that seems to regard the Constitution as a series of helpful suggestions, Sullivan's task of rehabilitating Obama is a daunting one. But he sets about it with a will.

For example, he lists the $900 billion stimulus as an accomplishment, even though it stimulated nothing except for debt and the size of government. He points out Obama has not, strictly speaking, raised taxes. He does not mention it was not for the want of trying. He claims Obamacare is "moderate." And Sullivan mentions Obama had Osama bin Laden killed, something the president never tires of pointing out, as if he personally pulled the trigger and the Navy SEALs were just bit actors in the drama starring Mr. Hope and Change.

How does Sullivan come to this remarkable idea of Obama's greatness? Partly he answers the question in his own article, in which he points out he has been an unabashed supporter of the man since 2007. He claims he does this as a conservative, but that is about as believable as all of the other claims in his piece.

Further casting doubt on Sullivan's credibility is his obsession with Sarah Palin's womb. Sullivan has been one of the leading proponents of something called "Trig Trutherism," which suggests Palin is not the mother of Trig Palin, her special needs younger son. To be sure, like other conspiracy theorists, Sullivan poses as someone who is "just asking questions." Just like people who believe Obama was born in Kenya or that 9/11 was an inside job or that man never landed on the moon.

Ordinarily someone who believes things like that wouldn't be given the time of day, not to speak of a cover story in a once major news magazine. But sadly that is not the case any longer.

Salutations fellow roleplayers!

Hello everyone! I am a new arrival to the site (but certainly not one to roleplaying) and I am looking forward to participating in games as well as running a game as well!

I've played a cornucopia of games in my time: Dungeons & Dragons (2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions), Vampire: The Masquerade, Star Wars, Wheel of Time, BESM, Dark Heresy, D20 Modern, Marvel Universe, Mutants and Masterminds, and probably a few more that I regretfully cannot even recall at this moment.

I enjoy high fantasy games and look forward to finding one that I may be able to join to stretch my creativity to its limit.

I hope to make quite a few friends here and I do hope to roleplay alongside many of you as I make myself comfortable.

America's newest immigration wave: Harry Potter owls?  (The Week)

New York ? White snowy owls that look an awful lot like Hedwig are being spotted above the continental U.S., sending birdwatchers and Potter fans into a frenzy

Look up, Potterphiles.?You may be able to catch a glimpse of the teenage wizard's favorite pet. Indeed, majestic snowy owls are now flying over the United States in uncharacteristically large numbers. Here, a guide to the owls' unusual migration:

What is a snowy owl?
It's a large white owl that can reach 2 feet in height, with a wingspan of nearly 5 feet ? just like Hedwig of Harry Potter fame. Typically, the birds fly south from their Arctic habitat once every four years or so, says Erin Skarda at TIME, generating a few sightings, often in the Bible Belt. But this year's influx is a particularly "massive migration." To date, reports Reuters, about 35 snowy owls have been spotted in Missouri, and 75 in neighboring Kansas.

?

Why are there more birds than usual?
A plentiful supply of Arctic lemmings, the birds' favorite food, led to a strong breeding season up north, Denver Holt, director of the Owl Research Institute in Charlo, Mont. tells The Associated Press. Now competition for food among the unusual numbers of offspring has sent them flooding into the U.S. to search for everything from voles to rabbits to shore birds.

So this is actually bad news?
In a way, yes. "Many of the birds are suffering," warns Murphy, and some of the owls are just one-third of their normal weight. The birds are also facing "uncommon obstacles" they wouldn't normally encounter in the Arctic, like overhead power lines and fast-moving cars.

?

When will they go home?
You'll have until at least March to spot the regal birds, when they'll begin the long flight back up to their Arctic home. If you're interested in catching a glimpse, the owls are fairly conspicuous, adds Mike Benbow at Herald Net. "Their large size and coloration make them easy to spot, kind of like a 2-foot-tall snowman." Of course, they do fly 70 miles per hour and are nocturnal, so it's not that easy.

Cesar Sanchez, Escaped Inmate, Found By Police In Illinois Port-A-Potty (VIDEO)

An inmate who jumped from a moving van while being taken back to prison Friday afternoon was found by police six hours after making his bold escape -- in an Illinois port-a-potty.

Cesar Sanchez, 37, was on his way to the Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Ill. following a court appearance when he somehow jumped from the prisoner transport van in southwest suburban Lockport, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Illinois Department of Corrections spokeswoman Sharyn Elman told the Chicago Tribune that authorities were investigating whether Sanchez, who was handcuffed and in a prison jumpsuit, kicked open the van door before jumping out.

After making his escape, Sanchez reportedly hitched a ride on a delivery truck to Rockdale, near Joliet, NBC Chicago reports. He was ultimately tracked to Waste Management facility in the area which contained several hundred portable toilets.

"As you can imagine, looking through 300 port-a-potties was going to be quite a job," Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas told NBC Chicago.

Police did not have to open every door, however. Authorities used "infrared, heat-sensing technology attached to a helicopter" and dogs to narrow the search, the Sun-Times reports. They found the inmate inside one of the portable toilets about 8:15 p.m.

?He was in the doo-doo,? Kaupas told CBS Chicago.

Sanchez is serving a 7-year-sentence for burglary. His previous convictions include shoplifting, robbery, aggravated battery, motor vehicle theft and unlawful use of a credit card

Last play FG gives Packers 38-35 win over Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) ? The Green Bay Packers are still perfect and heading to the playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers engineered a last minute drive to set up a 30-yard field goal by Mason Crosby on the final play and the Green Bay Packers remained undefeated and clinched a playoff berth with a 38-35 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday.

Rodgers hit three passes of more than 18 yards on the drive in the final 58 seconds as the Super Bowl champion Packers (12-0) won their 18th straight game and handed the Giants (6-6) their fourth straight loss.

New York, which was blown out by New Orleans Monday night, tied the game on a 2-yard Eli Manning touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion run by D.J. Ware with just under a minute to play.

However, Rodgers, who threw four touchdown passes, wasn't going to settle for overtime after a touchback on the ensuing kickoff.

On first down, he completed a pass to Jermichael Finley just over the outstretched hands of rookie linebacker Jacquian Williams and the tight end rumbled 24 yards up the right sideline to the 44.

A 24-yard pass to Jordy Nelson down the left sideline moved the ball to the New York 29 and an 18-yard pass to Greg Jennings two plays later moved the ball to the 12.

Green Bay called time out with 3 seconds to go, and then Crosby delivered his winning kick.

The Packers would clinch the NFC North if Detroit lost to New Orleans on Sunday night.

For the Giants, everything wasn't terrible. Dallas also lost, leaving New York a game behind the Cowboys with four games to go. The two teams will play twice over that span.

Rodgers, who was harassed by Giants front and sacked three times, finished 28 of 46 for 369 yards. He threw touchdown passes of 7 and 13 yards to Donald Driver, 20 to Jennings and 12 to Finley.

Linebacker Clay Matthews also returned an interception 38 yards for a score in the second quarter.

Manning finished 23 of 40 for 347 yards. He had a 67-yard touchdown pass to Travis Beckum and touchdown tosses of 4 and 2 yards to Nicks. Brandon Jacobs scored on a 1-yard run after a rare interception of Rodgers and Lawrence Tynes kicked two field goals with a 50-yard in the fourth quarter getting New York within 28-27.

Rodgers hooked up with Driver on a 7-yard TD with 3:34 to go to push the lead to 35-27.

However, Manning hit tight end Jake Ballard on two 15 yard passes and connected with Victor Cruz for 22 yards to set up the game-tying score that New York thought would send the game to OT.

Rodgers had other ideas, though, and the Packers continued their run at trying to match Miami's perfect season in 1972.

It's not surprising New York gave them a game. The Giants ended the Denver Broncos perfect season at 11 games in 1998 and they knocked off the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl in February 2008 when Tom Brady and company were a game from perfection.

The Giants let the Packers know early they were going to be in a for a battle this week.

Manning and Beckum, who had one catch all season, combined on a 67-yard catch and weaving run for a touchdown on the third play of the game.

Rodgers tied the game with a 12-yard TD pass to Finley on Green Bay's second possession, only to see New York take the lead on a 38-yard field goal by Tynes.

New York seemed to be in control until Manning made a mistake on a play action pass on the first play of the second quarter. With his primary receiver covered, Manning threw a sideline pass to Ahmad Bradshaw in front of the Packers bench and Matthews jumped the route and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown and a 14-10 lead.

Rodgers had only been intercepted four times all season but linebacker Chase Blackburn, who was signed on Wednesday, picked him off at the Green Bay 21 and returned the ball to the 12. Two plays later, Brandon Jacobs plowed in from the 1 to give New York a 17-14 edge.

Rodgers atoned for the error on the next series, driving the Packers 80 yards in 11 plays with the biggest play being an 11-yard scramble on a third-and-10 from New York 43. Rodgers capped the march with a 13-yard, third-down touchdown pass to a wide-open Donald Driver on a play in which the Giants secondary blew the coverage.

Rodgers pushed the lead to 28-17 on the opening series of the second half with his fist TD pass to Driver but Manning got New York back in the game later in the quarter with his first TD to Nicks.
