Blinds Chalet's Sales are Up, Despite Economy |

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) April 10, 2009

Blinds Chalet notes that in a slow economy, some sectors of home improvement are holding steady. Even though house values have fallen, buyers aren?t buying, sellers are holding on to their properties, and contractors are out of work, areas in home improvement could actually grow this year.

?Our sales are up,? says Ron Manwaring of Blinds Chalet. ?Window blinds seem to be on the list of improvements people are making, despite the economy.?

Historically, it has been shown that money invested in a home almost always has a good return on investment. The average return expected was around 80 cents on the dollar, give or take. However in the current times where prices are falling and the construction work force is out of work, it is actually possible that the return could increase, going to over one dollar for every dollar invested.

Why? Because market demand drives the prices of building supplies and materials such as steel, drywall, wood, etc. With demand down, prices have dropped. The demand for new construction has also dropped and contractors, builders, and designers are willing to work for less just to have work. These factors significantly benefit the home owner currently seeking improvements.

Nevertheless, big ticket home improvements such as major home additions and renovations have tapered off. And basic upkeep and home maintenance like outdoor painting and lawn maintenance have also been pushed to the side.

Alternatively, where there has been growth are in areas of cost effective home improvements.

As families stay in their existing homes, cost effective, energy efficient improvements become more attractive. And thanks to the new tax credits for energy efficiency improvements like insulation, high efficiency windows and window treatments, appliances and mechanical systems, going green proves to be a good short and long term, cost effective investment.

?Heightened awareness about energy efficiency has played a role in our increased window blind sales. And we?ll see more eco friendly window treatments hit the market this year as more and more blind manufacturers meet the demand for green, energy efficient products,? says Manwaring.
