Follow live: Large twister near OKC

Fossilized sediment from New Jersey's salt marshes contains evidence of a migrating coast line. For some 2,000 years, up until the dawn of our modern warming era around 1900, the sea level off of what's now New Jersey was rising by about one to two millimeters a year, with the coast itself imperceptibly creeping inland. Today, the sea level is rising by three to five millimeters a year.

Justin Bieber's Legal Defense: Deny EVERYTHING! | PerezHilton.com

justin bieber denies everything

Justin Bieber is facing a lot of accusations lately- everything from spitting to reckless driving!

But according to law enforcement sources, Justin is already mounting an impenetrable defense, and it's the same one for every charge:

Deny ?til you die!

Of course, he's also going to get by with a little help from his friends! The Biebs' posse have told the District Attorney's office that they're willing to swear under oath that Justin never spit on anyone.

His entourage is also denying Justin was driving during the Ferrari incident, but that may be a tougher sell!

According to the police, several eyewitnesses, including Keyshawn Johnson, said they saw the Biebs in the driver's seat!

We guess it's just going to be Justin's word against everyone else's? We'll have to wait to see if the D.A. is a Belieber!

Jared Leto: I was 'food-stamp poor'

Jared Leto in 2013.

He's a movie star and a rock musician today, but in his childhood, Jared Leto was "food-stamp poor," he tells style catalog and publication Mr. Porter.

Leto and his brother Shannon were raised by a single mom who moved often, but infused her sons with a sense of creativity and the arts.

"It was the 1970s, the age of the artist and the hippy, and my exposure to that shaped me in a really deep way," he said. "I had no concept of the word 'fame'; or a notion of success or money. We grew up very poor, so our world wasn't anywhere near that kind of stuff. You have to do what is important to you and protect that."

Leto is known to many as Angela Chase's crush Jordan Catalano in the 1994-1995 cult TV favorite "My So-Called Life." He's also starred in such films as "American Psycho," "Requiem for a Dream," and "Urban Legend," but his second love is music. Leto and his brother perform together as part of the rock group 30 Seconds to Mars.

The band's latest album, "Love Lust Faith and Dreams," features a song that harks back to Leto's childhood, as "Depuis Le D?but," the final song on the album, closes by featuring a music box playing the theme from "Swan Lake."

"My mother used to put my little brother and me to sleep by playing that exact music box," he said. "And we wanted to put a little bit of our life on there. The whole record is very personal and I hope it is an album that can be transformative."

NY plane crash passengers ID'd as patient, wife

EPHRATAH, N.Y. (AP) ? A brain cancer patient and his wife were on board the volunteer medical flight piloted by a Connecticut man that crashed in a wooded area of central New York, authorities said Sunday.

Frank and Evelyn Amerosa of Utica were aboard an Angel Flight on Friday night when the twin-engine aircraft went down in Ephratah, a sleepy town about an hour west of Albany, according to police and family members.

Officials and family said John Campbell, 70, of Stamford, Conn., was flying the couple back from the Boston area, where Frank Amerosa was being treated for brain cancer.

The bodies of Campbell and Evelyn Amerosa have been recovered from the rural crash site. Dozens of searchers, including a helicopter crew, continued searching the woods and water Sunday for Frank Amerosa, 64, who was presumed dead, said Sgt. Brian Van Nostrand of the Fulton County Sheriff's Department.

Frank Amerosa, a retired trucker, had been diagnosed with brain cancer more than a year ago. Evelyn Amerosa, 58, worked at an area nursing home directing residents in activities like bingo and trips ? a job she loved, said her daughter Heather Theobald. She said her mother had been with her step-father for at least 16 years. The couple loved to travel and had recently returned from the Bahamas.

"Very happy, very much love, very optimistic, they did everything for anybody," Theobald told The Associated Press. "They were just very good people. They were loved by a lot of people."

Campbell was volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, a nonprofit group that arranges free air transportation for the sick. Angel Flight Northeast said it has set up free air transportation and medical care for more than 65,000 children and adults on about 60,000 flights covering more than 12 million miles. It was founded in 1996.

"John loved to fly and truly believed in the mission of Angel Flight. He loved volunteering his time and we take some solace in the fact he died doing something he loved while trying to help others," according to a family statement read to The Associated Press by his daughter Kimberly Conti, of Rutherford, N.J.

Rescue workers on Sunday scoured the woods and searched a big, murky pond where the bulk of the aircraft was submerged. Wreckage from the crash was dispersed over a large area, with pieces of the plane found as far as 5 miles away.

Town Supervisor Todd Bradt said more than 100 rescuers searched for Frank Amerosa into Sunday night but did not find him. The search will continue Monday.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators who returned to the crash site Sunday aim to retrieve the bulk of the wreckage from the water over the next few days, said agency spokesman Eric Weiss. They are looking for smartphones, GPS devices, computer tablets or other items that could "give the investigators some electronic evidence of what happened in the last minutes of flight," he said.

The Piper PA 34 had departed from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., and was headed to Rome, N.Y., before it crashed just after 5 p.m. Friday, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said. The plane did not issue a distress call before losing radar and radio contact, the NTSB said.

Terence Kindlon, an Albany attorney who is a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight, said he and another lawyer, Dale Thuillez, had flown the couple to Boston on Friday morning in Thuillez's plane. He quickly found out he had something in common with Frank Amerosa.

"We were both former Marines and had been in Vietnam pretty close together in time," Kindlon said. "We hit it right off. He was a nice guy."

The two lawyers flew back to Albany in Thuillez's plane after dropping off the couple in Boston.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, Kindlon stressed that "the standards for being an Angel Flight pilot are rigorous."

Authorities had initially said the bodies of two passengers were found after the aircraft went down Friday night. But Van Nostrand corrected that report Sunday, saying the bodies of the Evelyn Amerosa and Campbell had been found.

Witnesses described the destruction that started in the air above Ephratah.

Joan Dudley, owner of Granny's Ice Cream Shanty, which is less than a mile from the crash site, said she and her employees saw the plane flip, then fall apart Friday night.

"Parts and pieces of it were flying through the sky, and a body fell out," Dudley said.

They called 911 as they parked their car and ran to the crash site in the rain to see if they could rescue anyone.

"Airplane parts were all over the place," she said. "They were picking them up all over."

Ephratah resident Roger Berry, 75, said he was outside chopping wood when the plane crashed.

"When I heard it, I knew something was wrong," Berry said.

Berry said he heard a bang, then saw pieces of the plane fall from the sky. The motor fell 50 feet from his neighbor's bedroom, where she was sleeping, Berry said.

India's sports bill draft to be ready by June 30, says minister

India's sports minister Jitendra Singh, who is "embarrassed and sad" about the alleged spot-fixing in the IPL, has said the sports bill that is currently being drafted should be ready in full by June 30. Speaking to television channel CNN IBN, Singh said: "I feel it's very important for a very strict law, that processes are implemented not only in cricket but in other sports also. Cricket has just been exposed, but there might be things happening in other sports too. I think it is very important to put in safeguards against these."

The International Olympic Committee (IOC), Singh said, had been roped in to help draft the bill. "The biggest achievement we have done is we have got IOC on board to help us draft the sports bill. The sports bill is being drafted, Justice Mudgal is drafting it.

"For the first time we've brought in sportspersons, we've brought in lawyers who fight for sport, we've brought in people from all walks of life into the committee to draft the sports bill. And we've given them a deadline - June 30 - to draft the sports bill."

In wake of the alleged fixing, India's law minister Kapil Sibal had met Singh earlier in the week to discuss the bill. Then, Sibal had said past instances of fixing in sports in India, where attempts to prosecute the perpetrators failed due to lack of legislation dealing solely with the issue, proved it was necessary to work on such a law.

The three Rajasthan Royals cricketers currently in custody - Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - have been charged under three sections of the Indian Penal Code that deal with cheating, criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.

In other developments, the income tax department of India has reportedly initiated a probe into the hawala and illegal cash transactions involved in the alleged spot-fixing, and will interrogate the cricketers and bookies being detained about the same.

Sky Sports for iPad adds more live camera options ahead of Champions League final

Sky Sports for iPad adds more live camera options ahead of Champions League final

It's not uncommon for the Sky Sports iPad application to receive features tailored for fans of the world's beautiful game, soccer (or football, if you want to get technical). To that end, Sky today released version 5.4 of the app ahead of next week's UEFA Champions League final. Viewers will now be able to choose from up to 20 camera angles when watching game highlights, which should go hand-in-hand with the recent inclusion of that second screen experience. The update also brings the ability to view selected clips in slow-mo -- and, hey, the way Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are currently playing, we're definitely going to need to take things down a notch.

The Video Game Industry Is Facing A Mobile Zombie Apocalypse ...

Conventional wisdom tells us that, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, we have two options: Collect as many weapons as possible -- the explosive kind, preferably -- and stage a futile, dramatic last stand, or, alternatively, make a run for it -- a desperate (and inevitably fruitless) search for someplace safe.

This topic is frequently explored in video games. Last year?s The Walking Dead won numerous game-of-the-year awards, while Capcom?s (TYO:9697) Resident Evil remains an icon of the genre, having spawned nearly two dozen game titles and four Hollywood productions, with a fifth on the way.

But while zombie business may be booming, game companies are facing an apocalypse of their own, as the cloud, social media, and mobile computing combine to wreck what used to be a pleasant suburban industry.

The first victim was game developer THQ (OTCMKTS:THQIQ). It filed for bankruptcy late last year, and Atari (EPA:ATA) followed suit several months later. Square Enix (TYO:9684), best known for its Final Fantasy series, landed deep in the red for fiscal 2012, as it restructured itself toward smartphones and tablets. Nintendo (TYO:7974) reported its first annual loss in 30 years, and EA (NASDAQ:EA) recently announced that it was laying off 10% of its workforce, citing ?priorities in new technologies and mobile.?

The gaming industry has always been cyclical -- Atari and Nintendo have weathered any number of cycles -- but things have gotten worse for the old guard, as console systems like Nintendo?s Wii fall out of favor. Console sales fell 21% last year, and while there?s no hard proof that the rise of mobile and social gaming is responsible, it?s clearly the elephant in the room.

True to script, console manufacturers are preparing for a showdown, and arming themselves to the teeth. Nintendo kicked off a new generation of gaming consoles -- the eighth, if anyone's counting -- when it released the Wii U last November. Microsoft?s (NASDAQ:MSFT) new Xbox is rumored for a summer release, and Sony?s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 should be available by Christmas.

These consoles will bristle with technology. They?ll be socially connected, and built around online connectivity. Controllers will be wireless -- this is the mobile era, and that means batteries, baby -- or in the Wii U?s case, a controller/tablet hybrid, complete with touchscreen. They?ll run PC hardware and surf the Web; and if that?s something you?d rather not do with thumb buttons, the Xbox will feature motion detection, so perhaps you can pantomime your next Twitter post.

Game developers are taking the other tack, and running for safety, but rarely finding it. EA brought some of its more popular games to social networks, only to ditch them earlier this year. Zynga (NASDAQ:ZNGA) has dominated social gaming for years, and even with top hits like FarmVille, the company has never made real money at it. The rapidly-growing mobile market is no safe haven either, given how stingy mobile users are with their wallets. Rovio?s Angry Birds is, by far, the most successful game on mobile platforms, having reached a billion customers, but the franchise only earned $70 million last year, half of which came from merchandising. The company also claims it produced 50 failures before landing its big hit ? a success rate that would sink most larger developers, whose success has always depended upon large budgets and lavish marketing campaigns.

PC gaming remains healthy and continues to be a growth market, but it, too, is wrestling with the following question: What will happen to this premium industry when the world is overrun by cheap, throwaway mobile apps? Computer games have traditionally offered a more substantial and user-differentiated experience, but this is changing as developers move toward subscription models and ?always-online? -- ie, the cloud -- not because it?s better for consumers, but because it keeps their wallets open and cuts down on piracy.

Blizzard?s (NASDAQ:ATVI) Diablo 3 and EA?s SimCity each require a network connection. Both games suffered major debacles at launch due to the demand placed on company servers, but the larger issue may be that, whereas earlier generations of these games still run today -- and remain quite popular -- the current crop will die out when they are no longer supported, or become defunct when users no longer pay for them. They?re no less ephemeral or disposable than something that costs $.99 on Apple?s (NASDAQ:AAPL) app store.

Remarkably, the two most popular paid games on mobile are Tetris and Pac-Man. ?After 30 years of upselling customers on new technology, more buttons and better graphics, the video game industry is under siege from products that died last century.

It?s a good plot, but from the looks of things, the ending won?t be pretty.

Brazil probes rumor that set off panic run on state bank

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said on Monday she ordered the Federal Police to investigate the source of a rumor that sent thousands of poor Brazilians running to state bank branches seeking payment of a monthly family stipend.

A rumor that payments of the Bolsa Familia program would be ended led crowds to line up over the weekend at branches of the Caixa Economica Federal government bank to get their money. The rumor spread by word of mouth and cellphone text messages.

Angry beneficiaries smashed glass doors and automatic teller machines in some branches on Saturday in a surprising outburst that reminded Brazilians of chaotic scenes in crowded banks during financial crises two decades ago before Brazil stabilized its economy.

The program of cash transfers to families on the condition they send their children to school and get them vaccinated has helped lift 30 million Brazilians from poverty over a decade.

Brazil's social policy has helped maintained widespread support for Rousseff's ruling Workers' Party and is a key platform in her re-election plans next year. Reacting quickly, her government allowed stipends scheduled for later this month to be paid out at ATM's over the weekend to stop the panic.

"This government money is sacred. We guarantee these payments. We will not give up the Bolsa Familia," Rousseff vowed in a speech at a shipyard. She called the rumor "inhuman."

"We have put the Federal Police on the case to find out who started this rumor that was aimed at unsettling Brazilians who have been rising from extreme poverty for 10 years," she said.

Caixa Economica Vice President Jos? Urbano Duarte said close to 1 million families got their Bolsa Familia cash grant this weekend. The rumors caused panic lines at bank branches in 12 of Brazil's 26 states, mainly in the poor Northeast of the country, despite government assurances that the rumor was false.

About 50 million Brazilian, almost one-quarter of the South American country's population, benefit from the program which pays out a minimum of 70 reais ($34.42) a month to qualifying families.

Brazil's deteriorating fiscal situation and heavy tax burden have led economists to advocate cuts in public spending to allow more investment and boost sluggish growth in the world's seventh-largest economy. Some economists say social programs will have to give for the country to invest more in industrial output and upgrade its dilapidated infrastructure to be competitive.

Telerehabilitation allows accurate assessment of patients with low back pain

May 20, 2013 ? A new "telerehabilitation" approach lets physical therapists assess patients with low back pain (LBP) over the Internet, with good accuracy compared with face-to-face examinations, reports a study in the May 15 issue of Spine.

Taking advantage of Skype and other widely-used services may make telerehabilitation a more feasible alternative to in-person clinic visits, according to the new research by Prof. Manuel Arroyo-Morales and colleagues of University of Granada, Spain. They believe their results "give preliminary support to the implementation of web-based LBP assessment systems using video recordings that can be evaluated by different therapists."

Can Back Pain Assessments Be Performed Over the Internet?

The researchers designed and evaluated a web-based telerehabilitation system for performing routine clinical assessments of patients with LBP. The telerehabilitation setup operated across a low-bandwidth Internet connection between two personal computers equipped with webcams.

The system included the popular Skype videoconferencing service, allowing the patient and physical therapist could see and talk to each other in real time. The therapist guided the patient in performing specific movements, and captured video clips for analysis using video motion analysis software (Kinovea). The therapist and patient were also able to complete standard back pain questionnaires using the web-based system.

Fifteen patients with chronic LBP underwent two assessments in random order: once face-to-face and once using the telerehabilitation setup. Accuracy was assessed by comparing the results of telerehabilitation assessment with those of in-person assessment.

The results showed good agreement between the two evaluations, supporting the use of telerehabilitation for clinical assessment of LBP. There was good correlation for measures made on video motion analysis, such as spine mobility and back muscle endurance; as well as questionnaire-based assessments such as disability, pain, and health-related quality of life.

Skype and Other Tools Make Telerehabilitation More Feasible

The telerehabilitation setup showed consistent results for the same therapist at different times (intra-rater reliability) as well as for assessment by independent therapists (inter-rater reliability).

There is growing interest in Internet-based systems for assessment of patients with musculoskeletal disorders. Telerehabilitation approaches could be especially valuable for patient in rural or remote areas, who don't have easy access to healthcare providers.

In the past, the use of telerehabilitation was limited by high equipment costs. The new study shows the successful use of telerehabilitation using widely available and familiar technology, including the use of free software such as Skype.

The telerehabilitation system evaluated in the new study may be useful in assessing patients with the very common problem of LBP, showing good agreement with the results of face-to-face assessment. However, there are still some factors limiting more widespread use -- including the need for "potentially unwieldy" security software to protect patient privacy.

Prof. Arroyo-Morales and coauthors also note that many patients who would otherwise have been eligible for the study weren't included because of a lack of familiarity and experience with computers. The researchers call for further studies in larger groups of patients -- focusing on those who don't have easy access to in-person evaluations.

Chooch's hammy a worry for Phils

The Phillies might, yet again, be without starting catcher Carlos Ruiz for an extended period of time.

Ruiz was lifted from Sunday afternoon?s game against the Reds after straining his right hamstring while running the bases in the bottom of the second inning. Ruiz will presumably be placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, and Humberto Quintero will likely be called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Erik Kratz came on to catch for Ruiz on Sunday and will probably start for the Phillies going forward.

Ruiz, 34, was batting .235/.286/.275 with no homers and nine strikeouts in 56 plate apperances since returning April 28 from his 25-game amphetamine?suspension. Hamstring strains often require 2-4 weeks.

You need to get in and uncover individual stories from real folks that have used various sorts.

There are numerous stories on the net exactly where individuals make wonderful evaluations of a lot of of the best units. One particular other cause that I like to look at private blogs and so on is that they generally are 3rd celebration, which tends to make them unbiased. I personally suggest a set of headphone or earmuff variety devices.

Not only do they have a tough protective shell on the outdoors that stops a lot of noise, but several of the higher finish units will only block out loud sounds. There are filters in the units, actually electronically controlled that sense the sound. The Roller Coaster That Sandy Dumped Into the Ocean Is Being Torn Down

While most of the world has moved on since Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc late last October, countless communities are still reeling and recovering from its utter devastation. And today, the Jet Star roller coaster of Seaside Heights, NJ, one of the more iconic landmarks from Sandy, is being laid to rest for good.

According to the AP, the Jet Star, which fell into the ocean when the Casino Pier disintegrated, will take about four days (or 48 hours) to demolish with work beginning as soon as Prince Harry is done touring the area today.

"As we all know, it's been a long journey to get to here," Toby Wolf, a spokeswoman for Casino Pier told WCBS 880. "Seeing that visibly gone will be kind of a feeling of moving forward. A sense of moving forward."

Crews had already been in brought in earlier this morning in preparation of the work ahead.

While it hasn't been in operation since 2000, the Jet Star first started crunching vertebrae and presumably caused many an upchuck starting in 1972 at the Palisades Amusement Park. It moved to Casino Pier at some point thereafter. It also shouldn't be confused with the Star Jet, which replaced the Jet Star in 2002. (There are some conflicting reports and we've reached out to Casino Pier but if you know which is which, feel free to drop them into comments.)

The Jet Star stood 44.3 feet high with a top speed of 31.1MPH, according to the Roller Coaster Database. The only thrill it has left to give, though, is going to come in the form of a wrecking ball. [AP]

UPDATE: You can watch the slow destruction of the Jet Star here.

Emails show lobbyists, not insiders, underpinned U.S. market-moving report

By Sarah N. Lynch and Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The researcher whose report prompted a spike in health stocks last month appears to have relied on lobbyists rather than U.S. government insiders who had direct knowledge of a pending healthcare decision, according to emails reviewed by Reuters.

The messages could help bolster Height Securities LLC's claim that its analyst was essentially doing what reporters, lobbyists and others in Washington do every day: trying to figure out what the government is going to do next.

The small research shop is among the brokerages, law firms and other "political intelligence" operations that have drawn scrutiny over concerns that they may have facilitated insider trading by passing along tips that moved markets.

Height Securities has drawn inquiries from the Securities and Exchange Commission and Iowa Republican Senator Charles Grassley since it correctly predicted on April 1 that President Barack Obama's administration would keep certain medical payment rates in place, prompting a spike in healthcare stocks before the official announcement came out.

The analyst who prepared the report, Justin Simon, reached out to a healthcare lobbyist shortly before he issued his market-moving research bulletin, the emails show.

"I'm tracking down a rumor ... any chance you have heard that POTUS/WH have stepped in" to keep the Medicare rates in place, Simon asked, using shorthand for Obama and the White House.

Other documents indicate the lobbyist, whose name was redacted from the report, is Stacey Hughes, a founding partner of the Nickles Group who used to work for several Republican senators. She could not be reached for comment.

"That is the rumor," Hughes responded, adding that it was "a little more likely" that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services would not cut payment rates for healthcare providers after the acting head of the agency that oversees the two programs, Marilyn Tavenner, met with staffers of the Senate Finance Committee.

Hughes wrote that the White House could decide to keep the current payment rates for the popular health programs as a way to convince lawmakers in the Senate to make her post permanent.

"Just my opinion," Hughes wrote.

Simon released his report about an hour later, prompting a spike in health stocks that stood to benefit from the decision.

"Did you see what I did to the stock in the final 30 min of trading?" Simon wrote Hughes after his report came out. "We heard the same story from like 30 people so we went with it."

A Height spokesman said the emails reviewed by Reuters confirm that Simon based his report on multiple sources of information, rather than a single Obama administration insider who would have had direct knowledge of the decision.

"We appreciate the fact that the released documents validate our claim all along - Height did not receive or disseminate material non-public information," the spokesman said.

That appeared unlikely to satisfy Grassley, who wants "political intelligence" firms to be subject to the same disclosure laws as lobbyists.

Grassley's office said Height was not cooperating as much as they would like and appeared to be giving inconsistent information.

"Senator Grassley continues to try to unwind the events leading up to the stock spike on April 1 and previous trading anomalies in the prior two weeks," spokeswoman Jill Gerber said.

Michael Asaro, a lawyer who represents Simon, declined to comment.

Study Shows Animals, Pets, Dogs Help Improve Heart Health ...

(DOGS) An animal companion may not just warm your heart, but also help you maintain a healthy heart. In a new press release from the American Heart Association, pets?particularly?dogs?are?associated with lowering blood pressure, stress, cholesterol levels, and incidence of obesity.?So, the next time your buddy is nudging you for a walk around the block, just remember that you?re not only taking proper steps to keep your dog healthy, but you?re also doing your heart some good! Read on for more information on dogs and their relation to human heart health. ? Global Animal

Mike Krumboltz, Yahoo! News

The American Heart Association (AHA) has declared that pets, especially dogs, are good for a person?s heart. Further proof that dogs are among the best friends a person could have.

Dr. Glenn N. Levine, director of Baylor University?s cardiac care unit, was quoted in a?press release from the AHA?saying, ?Pet ownership, particularly dog ownership, is probably associated with a decreased risk of heart disease.?

The AHA writes that owning a dog ?may help reduce cardiovascular risk,? perhaps due to dogs bugging their owners into taking them for walks on a regular basis. Dog owners were, according to the AHA?s studies, 54 percent more likely than non-dog owners to get the suggested amount of exercise.

And?the benefits?don?t stop there. The AHA writes that owning a pet in general ?may be associated with lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels? as well as a lower rate of obesity. Pets can also help a person cope with stressful situations. Last month, a team of?therapy dogs?traveled to Boston to help the victims of the bombings.

Via heart.org:

?In essence, data suggest that there probably is an association between pet ownership and decreased cardiovascular risk,? Levine said. ?What?s less clear is whether the act of adopting or acquiring a pet could lead to a reduction in cardiovascular risk in those with pre-existing disease. Further research, including better quality studies, is needed to more definitively answer this question.?

In an interview with? The New York Times, Levine said, ?We didn?t want to make this too strong of a statement. But there are plausible psychological, sociological and physiological reasons to believe that pet ownership might actually have a causal role in decreasing cardiovascular risk.?

Good news, no doubt. But one shouldn?t expect a dog to offset unhealthy lifestyle choices. ?If someone adopts a pet, but still sits on the couch and smokes and eats whatever they want and doesn?t control their blood pressure, that?s not a prudent strategy to decrease their cardiovascular risk,? Levine told the Times.

The Times reports that 70 million dogs and 74 million cats are kept as pets in the U.S.

New Google Services apk confirms Google Play Games is coming

Games

We have a clue at what Google will provide in their upcoming Play Games service, look for it all to make more sense next week at Google I/O

There's a new version of Google Play Services being distributed, and inside the file there's plenty of reference to Google Play Games. For the past few weeks everyone has been sure that we were going to see some sort of Google Game Center for Android devices in the very near future, likely at Google I/O, and the fellows at Android Police have found all manner of clues and hints to what it will entail.

Things like leader boards and a matchmaking service are activities that a future application can trigger, as well as achievements and invitations. The settings for Play Games (so far, the only portion that's working) also show notification settings that will allow you to pick and choose who can send you game notifications. The whole kit and caboodle is tied up into Google+, which should mean easy access to your friends as well as a central hub for all the gaming goodness.

Make no mistake, this is pretty awesome. But it leaves a few unanswered questions. How backwards compatible will this be? How difficult (or easy) will it be for developers to integrate Play Games into their applications? Can any game be built to work with the new service? Most importantly, when will this go live? We'll likely get all those answers and more next week in San Francisco.

For now, be sure to head to Android Police to read their in-depth look at everything they found inside the new Google Play Services file, it's a pretty epic read.

Mark Zuckerberg's Group Loses High-Profile Backers Elon Musk, David Sacks

WASHINGTON -- Billionaire eco-entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on Friday that he was quitting Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's immigration advocacy group, upset over its controversial political strategy.

Fwd.us told The Huffington Post that a second funder also had decided to withdraw. Several media outlets have reported that David Sacks, founder of the business networking site Yammer and a former colleague of Musk's, had dropped off the list of the group's supporters.

Zuckerberg started Fwd.us to press for comprehensive immigration reform. But the group has been heavily criticized by some immigration reform supporters in recent weeks for its television ad campaign praising lawmakers for backing projects like the Keystone XL pipeline and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Fwd.us has argued that the ads were meant to give home district support to lawmakers backing immigration reform.

In a statement to AllThingsD on Friday, Musk, the founder of the electric carmaker Tesla Motors, made clear he was unhappy with the pro-oil ads.

?I agreed to support Fwd.us because there is a genuine need to reform immigration," Musk said. "However, this should not be done at the expense of other important causes. I have spent a lot of time fighting far larger lobbying organizations in D.C. and believe that the right way to win on a cause is to argue the merits of that cause. This statement may surprise some people, but my experience is that most (not all) politicians and their staffs want to do the right thing and eventually do.?

Fwd.us retains the backing of other Silicon Valley heavyweights, including Bill Gates.

The withdrawal of Musk and Sacks comes just days after a coalition of progressive groups announced that they were temporarily pulling all their ads from Facebook in protest.

?Leaders in the technology community have every right to talk about how immigration reform will benefit their businesses," former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) said in a statement on Tuesday. "But instead, Fwd.us has chosen a strategy that?s condescending to voters and counterproductive to the cause of reform."

The seven-figure Fwd.us ad campaign ran for a week in seven states, but it is no longer on the air.

Fwd.us spokeswoman Kate Hansen told HuffPost, "We recognize that not everyone will always agree with or be pleased by our strategy -- and we're grateful for the continued support of our dedicated founders and major contributors. Fwd.us remains totally committed to supporting a bipartisan policy agenda that will boost the knowledge economy, including comprehensive immigration reform."

As The Huffington Post reported in February, Musk is a significant -- but not top-tier -- donor to Democrats. He also contributes to Republicans.
