How to choose an external provider to manage the change ...

Choosing an external provider to manage the change?

How to select an external provider to manage the change? Do you need a consultant in change management, an interim manager or a resource contract, or another solution?

In my opinion, the issuance of a written ?Request for Proposal? for potential service providers and inviting the submission of a written proposal followed by interviews of the few selected is a waste of time. It is not possible to do more than provide a generic ?cut and paste? response to this type of investigation. There are always factors and issues that are not apparent in a document and change management with this is especially true. Here?s how I do it:

Talking with potential service providers, giving them a high-level briefing and have a discussion with them ? on the phone first. See if they talk sense to ask the right questions and seem to have a good intuitive understanding of your questions, and assess the personal chemistry.

Provision of information

If you feel it is both useful to the next step to invite them for a meeting and send an email nondisclosure / confidentiality agreement to sign and then email them out of your last strategic review or other relevant documentation.

FOC preliminary analysis

If you find it

two is to do, so instead of asking the proposal to invite them to spend their time would otherwise spend preparing written submissions to undertake a dissertation on the preliminary analysis of the site ? with a clear brief from you and to enable them to meet a cross section of key people involved. There should be no charge for this, but you cover their pre-agreement-pocket expenses.

Debriefing

?available? is for you face to face for a debriefing and a [maximum 2] A4 sheets summarizing their evaluation. So if you they feel they can help you and vice versa then and only then, they prepare a short proposal to address the first and most obvious step -. With a list of some possible next steps

Developing a community of interest

The advantage for you is that you do not pay to understand your business, you get to see them in action and decide if you want to work with them, and they get to see if they can help you and if they want.

Then, if both parties are satisfied, a contract to implement the agreed first step and most obvious. Then, if both parties are always happy to hire them for the duration of the mission, and if the need arises, beyond. The key to this approach is that it is organic and progressive, it reflects more closely how the relationships develop naturally in ?real life? and it allows the development of a community of interest
