APPLE VALLEY - An Ontario man was shot and killed and two others others wounded late Thursday, San Bernardino County sheriff's officials said.

All three men were struck numerous times inside a garage in the 13000 block of Mohawk Road.

Gerald Scrutchins, 35, succumbed to his injuries early Friday, officials said.

The two other men, who were were 19 and 20 years old and both Apple Valley residents, were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

"They were inside a garage at a home on Mohawk (Road) when an unidentified black male walked up and started shooting," said Cindy Bachman, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Department.

The shooter then fled.

Authorities received several 9-1-1 calls after 11 p.m. following the shooting, Bachman said.

Homicide investigators on Friday were searching for the shooter, who has only been described as a black man in his early 20s.

A motive for the killing has not been released.
